Maddie does not drink nine coffees a day

Coffee Quest #27: Postal Service

Postal Service is a bit easy to miss since that beige plaster exterior and small windows just blends into its surroundings, but walk in and you'll find a roaring cafe that locals love.

I have to give an immediate shoutout to how warm and welcoming the people inside are. The owner/manager had a very funny conversation with some seniors about dosing them with excessive coffee shots. Also, there were a surprising amount of LGBTQA+ people.

And, uhh...I am incredibly self-conscious/embarassed about my voice at the moment. I've started voice training and it's really hard (and I know I need more practice). But seeing the people in Postal Service be so open about themselves subconsciously made my voice come out.

It was nice.

My partner ordered their agria hash. You can get this vegetarian (with poached eggs), but my partner wanted to try their vegan option with the tofu scramble instead. (In fact, most of their menu items are vegan friendly with eggplant and tofu replacing a lot of the usual protein).

The potato mash was mixed with some herbs, and the beans and broccolini was roasted and charred well. My partned loved their in-house cashew aioli though. Amazing texture, and being served with lemon dressing made the bright notes shine. She cleaned her plate. If she wasn't in public, she'd probably lick it clean (the fucking animal).

I ordered a cinnamon brioche. They sliced it in half, toasted it, and served it with a triangular slice of butter. All of this is so extra and I love it. They didn't need to do any of this, they could've just microwaved it like any other cafe and given it to you on a plate, but no, they went the extra mile.

Okay, you've made it this far! I have something bad to say about this place.

Their coffee sucks. I'm sorry.

I've never enjoyed kokako coffee beans. I know a lot of people love them because they're organic and fair trade, but I don't really get much from the profile or interesting aromas.

That's NOT my gripe here. My problem is with the shots being pulled. My partner's coffee and mine were incredibly inconsistent. Hers had very little flavour (and we were tasting the oat milk more than anything) and mine was super burnt and bitter and really sharp in weird ways.

Anyway! I love this cafe. I just wouldn't order coffee at this...cafe.
